Gay Rights Advocate to Make Exclusive LI Appearance

PFLAG LI and the Fair Media Council Present Zach Wahls at Briarcliffe College November 16th

Long Island, NY, November 4, 2014--PFLAG Long Island has partnered with the Fair Media Council and Briarcliffe College to present an exclusive engagement by gay rights advocate Zach Wahls. The event takes place on Sunday, November 16 at Briarcliffe College, 1055 Stewart Ave., Bethpage, NY. Sign in begins at 1:30 pm and Mr. Wahls will speak from 2pm-4pm, followed by refreshments and socializing. PFLAG LI is asking for a $5 entrance fee for this event to cover expenses. For all those interested in attending please RSVP by emailing info@pflagli.org.

“We are thrilled to have Mr.Wahls join us to talk about issues that are so important to PFLAG,” said Mitch Levy, PFLAG LI Board President. “And we are so pleased that the Fair Media Council and Briarcliffe College are showing their support for us and the LGBTQ community by co-sponsoring this event.”

Mr. Wahls’s speech against the proposed ban on gay marriage in front of the Iowa House Judiciary Committee on January 31, 2011 went viral on You Tube, exceeding 15 million views by April, 2012. Since then he’s been a guest on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Daily Show and Late Night with David Letterman and has written a book about growing up with two gay parents, “My Two Moms: Lessons of Love, Strength and What Makes a Family.” He is currently working on a new project called “Out to Dinner,” which involves both LGBT couples and straight couples getting to know each other over dinner.
