Honoring Martin Luther King With Dreams Of Kindness

Seaford Harbor Elementary School students learned to honor each other while learning about Martin Luther King this past week.

SEAFORD, NY —Martin Luther King Day had a dream and to mark his birthday coming up on Monday, Seaford Harbor Elementary School students were challenged with thinking about their own dreams by learning about the famous Civil Rights leader and why there is a holiday in his honor every January, according to a news release issued by the district.

Students in Marissa Cirillo’s class first read the digital version of “Who Was Martin Luther King Jr.?” Then they discussed the message of his memorable “I Have a Dream” speech, which was followed by a discussion of ways they can make the world a better place such as showing kindness and celebrating each others’ differences, district officials stated. On Wednesday, students wrote about and illustrated their own dreams while wearing their colorfully decorated “I Have a Dream” hats featuring the words “justice, equality, freedom and peace” along with various symbols of friendship and unity, according to the news release.
