MERRICK, NY — A mother and daughter share more than a familial bond. They are both survivors of the Holocaust.

Rose Girone, who turns 111 on Jan. 13, lives in a North Bellmore nursing home.

Her daughter Reha Bennicasa talked to Patch about what they had to overcome during World War II in Europe.
