ICYMI: Wantagh High School Announces 2016 Valedictorian and Salutatorian

The pair are incredibly active in the school and the community at large.

The Wantagh School District congratulates Grace Sullivan and Thomas Sullivan as the class of 2017 valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively.

Director of Guidance Frank Muzio held a congratulatory meeting with the students and their parents, which included Superintendent of Schools Maureen Goldberg, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction John McNamara, Assistant Principal James Brown and guidance counselor Jacqueline Lennon.

Grace is a National Merit Semifinalist and an Advanced Placement Scholar with Honor. She is also vice president of the National Honor Society and president of the National Science Honor Society, as well as a member of the National Art Honor Society. Other educational accolades include an Honors Award with the Long Island Science Congress, recipient of the Harvard Book Award, acceptance into Stony Brook University’s Simons Summer Research Program and a two-time recipient of the Daughters of the Revolution Essay Contest. Grace is also student government president, president of the Science Olympiad team, co-captain of the Rube Goldberg team and Key Club treasurer.

She can be found on the track as a member of the cross-country and winter and spring track teams as an All-Conference and All-County athlete. She also works with students with disabilities during her volunteer efforts with Rolling Thunder, a program for disabled students that encourages them to become active through running.

Thomas is vice president of both the National Honor Society and National Science Honor Society, as well as the recipient of the University of Rochester Bausch and Lomb Award for Science. He was designated as an AP Scholar with Distinction and Nassau County Basketball A-2 Scholar-Athlete.

Involved in school activities, Thomas is a cellist with the symphonic and chamber orchestras and competes with the Mathletes, Rube Goldberg and Science Olympiad teams. He is also a founding member of the Wellness Club and member of International Outreach, as well as a volunteer with the Camp ANCHOR Program and Rolling Thunder.
