The city of Desert Hot Springs in California is about to join Detroit, Stockton, San Bernardino and Vallejo in bankruptcy. The prime cause for this situation has been identified as police salaries and pensions. The acting city manager had an interesting observation concerning the situation, “I would not venture to say they (police) are overpaid, what I would say is that we can’t pay them.”
