Jones Beach Reopens For Swimming With No Shark Sighting

There were as many as three possible shark sightings on Tuesday.

WANTAGH, NY — Jones Beach opened as normal to swimming on Wednesday. It comes after people were not permitted into the water for much of Tuesday.

George Gorman, regional director for the state's Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, said, there were no shark sightings to start the day. On Tuesday, swimming to banned as many as three sharks may have been spotted.

Gorman told Patch that other than a bucket of bait fish at the West Bathhouse, Jones Beach is all clear.

Lifeguards went on duty at 9 a.m. as swimming resumed.
