WANTAGH, NY — Crowds came to Jones Beach over the weekend to support overdose prevention. The 8th Annual Heroes Against Heroin 5K Walk is a partnership of the John Brower Jr. Foundation and Outreach.

Up to 200 people participated in Saturday's event and raised $5,000.

"When we look at what has been happening for the past 20-plus years around the opioid crisis, this event that the Brower family created to support Outreach is an awareness raiser. It's an awareness raiser to remind everybody that we still have a major crisis going on," John Venza, Director of Residential Services at Outreach, said.
