'Knee Deep' Swimming At TOH Beaches, Jones Beach Shark Sighting

WANTAGH, NY — There was another shark sighting in Jones Beach Thursday morning, leading to "knee-deep" swimming only at Town of Hempstead beaches, a town spokesperson said.

The shark was spotted at the Central Mall, Newsday reported.

The state's Department of Parks did not respond to the latest sighting.

It's been a busy week for shark activity along the south shore as a Jones Beach lifeguard was bitten by something in the water. The next day a shark was spotted near the same location.

On Wednesday, swimming was prohibited for more than two hours at Town of Hempstead beaches after at least one shark was noticed off Lido Beach.

Town lifeguards and shark patrols have been checking for the predators, while police have been overseeing by air and sea.
