Belligerent Man Punches, Bites Police Officers In Nassau: Police

WANTAGH, NY — Two officers were hurt during an altercation with a Wantagh man, who they said was walking on Sunrise Highway on Sunday night holding an open beer and refused to give officers any identification.

The man, identified as John Eidenweil, 55, became violent, striking one officer's head with a closed fist, detectives said.

Eidenweil continued to struggle and resist arrest. During the incident, he bit an officer's left knee multiple times, police said.

Ultimately, Eidenwell was subdued and placed in custody.

Both officers were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Eidenweil was charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest and possession of an open alcohol container. He was due to get arraigned on Monday.
