Mandalay Students Are Running Across America

The elementary students are running from Long Island to California -- kind of.

WANTAGH-SEAFORD, NY - From Wantagh School District: Mandalay Elementary School students in Wantagh are collectively running the same amount of miles it would take to reach California from Long Island as part of a physical education unit called the Run Across America Challenge.

The students, called the Mandalay Milers, are running laps in the playground each day of their scheduled physical education classes to reach their goal by the end of the 2018-2019 school year. In addition, physical education teacher Robyn Pastuch has encouraged the students to run or walk at home to gain miles for the
school. As the miles are tracked, the students receive a toe token for every five miles they run or walk.

Ms. Pastuch said, “We are looking forward to seeing what our school can achieve when we set a goal together centered on fitness.”
