FREEPORT, NY - Village of Freeport Mayor Robert Kennedy, Nassau County Legislator David Denenberg and the Long Island Music Hall of Fame will join a memorial luncheon and candlelight vigil held by local fans and fellow musicians in tribute to Lou Reed, the trailblazing rock and roll legend and singer of the classic song "Walk on the Wild Side" who passed away over the weekend at the age of 71.  The remembrance will take place in his hometown of Freeport, Long Island on Wednesday, October 30th at 12:30 pm.  Reed is considered one of the most influential performers in the history of rock and roll, punk and alternative music.  Reed and his band, The Velvet Underground, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.  He was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2010. He died in Southampton and remained a Long Island resident, with a home in Amagansett.  Reed was a true rock and roll original, reinventing himself several times over, from androgynous, makeup-wearing glam rocker to droning noise rocker, from chronicler of Andy Warhol's Factory friends to rebellious punk.
