12-Year-Old Nassau Boy Struck by 88-Year-Old Driver

Police say the boy was struck Tuesday afternoon while trying to cross a busy street.

UPDATE, 12:30 A.M.: Nassau police say an adolescent boy was seriously injured after being struck by a car Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, a 12-year-old boy was trying to cross Sunrise Highway at Washington Avenue at 3:20 p.m. when they were hit by a 2008 Chevy Impala being driven by an 88-year-old woman.

Police say the boy suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. The driver stayed at the scene.

Police say there does not appear to be any criminality involved. A safety check was conducted on the car, and it was released to the driver.

The investigation is ongoing.

ORIGINAL STORY: A pedestrian was struck in Seaford Tuesday afternoon, and police have shut down the road where they were hit.

According to police, the pedestrian was hit at the intersection of westbound Sunrise Highway and Washington Avenue around 3:30 p.m.

As a result, police have shutdown all of the southbound lanes on Washington Avenue.

There's no word yet on the condition of the person who was hit, or if police have arrested the driver.

Drivers should avoid the area.
