Police: Restaurant Burglar Foiled

A man who broke into two area restaurants late Monday night and early Tuesday morning was busted after police were able to see surveillance tape, Nassau County detectives said.

Daniel Bliss, 48, of Happaugue allegedly broke into the  at 4870 Sunrise Highway in Massapequa Park after entering through a side window at 10:45 p.m.

He made off with an undetermined amount of cash, police said.

But when police went to the pancake house, they were greeted by store employees who were notified by an alarm. The employees showed cops the tape.

Police were able to locate Bliss' vehicle parked outside  at 3915 Merrick Road in Seaford about two hours later. The vehicle had been reported stolen in Suffolk County.

He was spotted inside the Seaford restaurant by cops who chased him after he fled on foot with more cash, police said.

The officers caught Bliss a short time later and discovered he had three forged checks.

Bliss was charged with two counts of burglary, three counts of possession of a forged instrument and unauthorized use of a vehicle. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Wednesday.
