Seaford High School All-Eastern, All-State Musicians Named

When it comes to playing bass clarinet, Seaford High School senior Melanie Koulias is the best student musician in the northeast.

The instrumentalist was the only bass clarinetist selected by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) to perform in the Eastern Division Honors Ensembles Concert taking place from April 4-7 in Hartford, Conn.
Koulias is the first Seaford High School student to achieve this level, which is
considered one of the highest honors a student musician can attain.

All-Eastern musicians are tapped from 13 northeastern states and Washington D. C. based on their outstanding scores on the highest level music evaluations as well as teacher recommendations. Also deserving accolades are bass vocalist Paul Franco and tenor vocalist Matthew Ho who, along with Koulias, were selected earlier in the year to perform in the New York State School Music Association’s (NYSSMA) All-State Conference held in Rochester at the end of November. Both vocalists received a perfect score on their level 6, the highest level, during NYSSMA evaluations last May. Koulias received a perfect score the
past two years on her level 6 NYSSMA evaluations.

"Congratulations to the students and their families as well as to their teachers Ms. Yvonne Bendzlowicz, Mr. Chris Coniglio and Mr. Anthony Romeo for the exemplary work in supporting these outstanding young musicians," said Seaford High School Principal Scott Bersin. "These honors represent musical accomplishment that is quite extraordinary."
