Someday, Lauren Dombrowski hopes to be as influential to someone as her mother has been to her. Considered the person who most inspired her to be her best, Dombrowski says she wouldn’t be valedictorian of her senior class today if it weren’t for her mother’s guidance and support.
Her influence has helped Lauren achieve a weighted grade-point average of 110.658, which led to her acceptance to the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. There, she plans to study biomedical engineering and take advantage of study abroad opportunities.

While Dombrowski excels in math and science, she also is well-read and has a passion for the arts and culture. She loves music and theatre, studies all types of dance and enjoys traveling. As a foreign language student, she took a high school trip to France and Spain.
“The best part of high school has been learning from wonderful teachers and spending time with close friends,” she said. “I wouldn’t change a thing about my high school experience.”

In high school, Dombrowski was president of the World Culture Club and a member of Tri-M Music Honor Society, the Honors Chorale, Jazz Choir, Model Congress and Key Club. She won numerous academic awards, including the President’s Award for Educational Excellence and those for Advanced Placement Calculus BC and Advanced Placement Physics. She also continues to take dance lessons at a local academy and has volunteered to help choreograph plays at the middle school.
As a member of National Honor Society, Dombrowski tutored others in math and science. She also participated in several community service activities ranging from fundraising walks to assisting with blood drives.
As Dombrowski prepares to head south to continue her academic career, she is guided by her greatest strength — her determination and drive to do well, and a piece of advice she hopes younger students planning out their futures will heed: “Step outside of your comfort zones and try something that you may not be 100 percent confident in, because eventually you will find something that you love and wish to pursue.”
