Police Officer Hospitalized After Seaford House Catches Fire

BREAKING: The blaze broke out late Sunday afternoon, police said.

SEAFORD, NY — A police officer was hospitalized after a fire broke out late Sunday afternoon at an empty house in Seaford, police said. Officers were called to a home on Rutherford Drive for a fire around 4 p.m. Sunday, Nassau County police said.

Officers saw smoke coming out of the windows and used a new breaching sledge tool — now equipped in all patrol vehicles — to enter the house. Police searched the home and determined it was empty.

North Massapequa and Wantagh Fire Departments extinguished the blaze. A police officer was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment, police said.
