A Seaford Middle School student has tested positive for COVID-19, but all schools in the district will remain open.
SEAFORD, NY – A Seaford Middle School student has tested positive for COVID-19, school officials announced Sunday, but all schools in the district will remain open on Monday.
In a letter to families on Sunday, Superintendent Adele Pecora said the district was notified Saturday night that the student had tested positive and is required to quarantine until the Department of Health clears them to return to school.
The middle school has closed off all areas of the building the student used and are thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting those spaces, Pecora said. The district is following all protocols to mitigate potential exposure to other students and staff.

According to Pecora, due to the specific circumstances of this case and the implementation of masks, barriers and social distancing in the classrooms, the school has not been instructed to close.
"We are closely monitoring this situation and will provide you with updates as we learn more," Pecora said in the letter. "As always, the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff is our priority."
