Hempstead Town Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney Won't Seek New Term
BREAKING: Erin King Sweeney is a Hempstead town councilwoman, daughter of Rep. Peter King and leader of the town board's GOP majority.

SEAFORD, NY — Erin King Sweeney, Hempstead town councilwoman, daughter of U.S. Rep. Peter King and leader of the town board's Republican majority, will not seek re-election this fall. The Seaford native told Patch in a statement her husband was moved to North Carolina and the family will be relocating with him.
The news was first reported by Newsday.
"My personal journey over the last year has made me appreciate more than ever the importance of family," King Sweeney said. " I send my deepest gratitude and best wishes to the residents of the 5th Councilmanic District whom I have had the privilege to serve."

The Fifth Councilmanic District covers Lido Beach and Point Lookout, as well as parts of Baldwin, Bellmore, Freeport, Merrick, Seaford and Wantagh.
King Sweeney, of Wantagh, was first appointed to the Hempstead Town Board in January 2015, according to her bio. She was elected to a full four-year term later that year.

She works as an attorney who has experience in transportation consulting and corporate affairs, and is a partner at Eckert Seamans Attorneys at Law. King Sweeney is also a managing member of King Sweeney Strategies in Wantagh, and a board member of both the Wantagh-Seaford Homeowner's Association and the Belmont Child Care Association Advisory Board.
In 2013, she was named the 2013 Businessperson of the Year and was inducted as an honorary chief with the state Police Chiefs' Benevolent Association.
