Seaford Students Learn Spanish Culture Through Dance

A special class helped the language students learn more about the culture they're studying.

WANTAGH-SEAFORD, NY - From Seaford School District: World language students at Seaford Middle School explored Spanish culture and got some good exercise in a Zumba program on Jan. 17. During the in-school field trip, eighth-graders worked with Zumba instructor Raphael Francois who taught them different dances such as salsa and merengue.

The program was coordinated by Spanish teacher Melanie Levy-Roberts. She said that it was a fun way to immerse students in Latin American culture and give them a greater appreciation for the language. She explained that the curriculum focuses on both the acquisition of linguistic skills and the exploration of cultural aspects of Spanish-speaking nations.
