State Announces Wantagh Parkway To Be Resurfaced Next Year
The heavily used road will be renovated between Ocean Parkway and the Northern State Parkway.

The New York State Department of Transportation recently announced that it will be undertaking a project in 2018 to resurface the majority of the Wantagh State Parkway.
The Wantagh Parkway is one of a few north-south highways in Nassau County, and is heavily trafficked every day. The state plans on resurfacing the entire length of the road, from Ocean Parkway in the south to the Northern State Parkway in the north.
"I am pleased to hear that long-awaited repairs are coming to a large stretch of the Wantagh State Parkway," said Assemblyman David McDonough, who a few days ago called on the DOT to make repairs to the road. "Long Island’s heavy flow of traffic and intense winter storms wreak havoc on our highways, and it is paramount that we receive our fair share of funding to maintain our infrastructure. Residents and businesses that use this route frequently have driven under dangerous conditions for years, and I am proud to have brought attention to this issue with state leaders and members of the Department of Transportation."

The DOT plans on starting some site work this year, but the bulk of the project will be carried out in 2018. The state estimates the cost of resurfacing the road to be between $21 million and $31 million.
In addition to the resurfacing, there will also be drainage upgrades for the road and other minor improvements.
