Stomach Flu Hits Wantagh High School, Affects Dozens Of Students
More than 140 students have been ill over the past few days, prompting the district to sanitize buildings.

More than 140 Wantagh High School students have become ill over the past few days after a stomach flu started making the rounds at the school.
According to the district, officials started receiving reports over the weekend of numerous students coming down with stomach flu symptoms. On Monday, the district said there were "more students than usual" who called in sick.
The district later clarified and said approximately 15 percent of the student body at Wantagh High School was out on Monday. According to enrollment date from the state Department of Education, that places the number at around 140.

The worst of the virus seemed to have passed, but about 6 percent of students were absent on Tuesday.
In response, the district had its facilities staff sanitize all of the school buildings over the weekend, although there were no signs of the virus outside of the high school.

The district is working with the Nassau County Health Department, but said it doesn't appear the virus is a serious threat.
