Stop & Shop Introduces Marty “the Bot" to Seaford

His name is Marty and he’s the latest in technological advancement in the grocery retail industry. We have been using robots more often than you might think, from using the self-checkout lane at the grocery store to purchasing tickets at a kiosk at the movies. It all involves interacting with service robots. Automation has had an impact on our everyday lives for some time now, but there have been several exciting developments recently. A popular robotic vacuum cleaner is on the market that can effortlessly memorize the layout of a house clean every inch of every room. Meanwhile, a robot in the yard can be seen cutting and mulching the grass while a third is cleaning the pool, checking the chemical mix of the water and calculating the remaining lifespan of the filters. Technology and robotics are no longer just in books, movies, or our imagination. It is finally being incorporated into our homes and in our neighborhoods.

This brings us to "Marty" Stop & Shop's newest contribution to the use of bots. If you shop regularly at Stop & Shop, you have likely seen a tall robot roaming the aisles. Marty monitors the floor for spills and hazards. Though customer reactions are mixed, it seems like Marty is being received rather well. That is, except for the occasional outbursts of "What in the world…"
