Teen Apprehended After Setting Fire To Nassau Bus: Police

A 17-year-old lit a fire inside the bus Aug. 13, damaging 10 other buses, police say.

SEAFORD, NY — A 17-year-old boy was arrested Thursday after police said he ignited a fire inside a Nassau County NICE bus in Seaford that damaged numerous buses.

As Patch previously reported, the blaze Aug. 13 caused 10 other NICE buses to catch fire, at 3340 Merrick Rd., leading to an excessive amount of property damage, according to police's arson and bomb squad. Smoke could be seen for miles.

At the time, NICE Bus officials said the vehicles were decommissioned.

He was charged with a count of third-degree arson and ten counts of fourth-degree arson. The teenager was expected to be arraigned on Thursday in Hempstead, police said.
