How do you guard your home against distraction burglaries?

Last week, Nassau County Police confirmed “distraction burglaries” were still plaguing Long Island communities.
In the latest publicized incident, an elderly couple were duped by a man posing as a water department official, cops said. The man brought the couple downstairs and kept them in a conversation while an accomplice reportedly stole valuables from them. Read more here.
Police have released guidelines on how to properly protect against such criminals but incidents continue to pop up on the island.
