The shelter received the highest rating possible from the state.

Supervisor Anthony J. Santino announced that the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter has earned perfect grades during the most recent state inspection of the facility. The shelter graded “satisfactory,” the highest rating given in the report.

“The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter is dedicated to providing an excellent environment for our dogs and cats, and ultimately finding them forever homes,” said Santino. “We are proud that New York state has given us the best possible review during its inspection.”

The Municipal Shelter Inspection Report, conducted by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Division of Animal Industry, said that the town animal shelter is safe, clean, well-lit, well-ventilated and has adequate space available for all dogs.
