Wantagh Cheerleaders Honored By State Senator
John Brooks recognized the team for its outstanding accomplishments this season.

State Senator John Brooks recognized the Wantagh High School varsity cheerleading team during the April 6 meeting of the Board of Education. On his behalf, assistant Kevin Devlin presented each of the athletes a citation from the state.
Under the direction of coach Matt Schneyer, the cheerleaders placed sixth nationally in the Small Varsity Division II during the National High School Cheerleading Championship at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida in February. For a second consecutive year, the team also won the Small Varsity Division I title during the Nassau County Cheerleading Championship and then took second place during the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Cheer Championships held in Onondaga Community College in March.
“We are particularly proud of the team,” said Jennifer Keane, director of health, physical education and athletics. “They worked very hard this season and their efforts have really paid off.”
