The Wantagh School District announced that Briana DeAngelo James has been appointed assistant principal of Wantagh Elementary School, effective July 1. She replaces Jessica Zimmer, who served as elementary supervisor for the past five years and who will now serve as principal of Forest Lake Elementary School.

A Northport resident, James joins Wantagh from North Shore Schools where she served since 2008 as a kindergarten and third grade integrated, co-teaching classroom teacher at Glenwood Landing School, as well as a first grade teacher. She also served as the lead teacher for grades 3-5 with Teachers College Reading and Writing Project. During her administrative internship, James applied for and received Blue Ribbon status for Glenwood Landing School. She formerly worked at both Forest Lake and Wantagh elementary schools as a full-year leave replacement.

James holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the College of the Holy Cross and a master’s degree in elementary education from Boston College. She also acquired educational leadership certification from Dowling College.
