Wantagh Honors Retirees and Students
The Board of Education honored longtime teachers and outstanding students at its last meeting.

From Wantagh Schools: During the Wantagh Board of Education meeting held on June 14, the trustees and administration announced and accepted the retirement of Francine Browne, John Cuiffo and Gloria Petersen.
Browne, a high school special education teacher, has served the district since 2001, while Cuiffo, an elementary physical education teacher, served the district since 1984. Gloria Petersen joined the district in 2005 as a part-time school monitor. Superintendent of Schools John C. McNamara congratulated and thanked the retiring faculty for their dedication to the district’s students and service to the Wantagh community.
In addition, Wantagh High School students Ashley Bailey and Ryan Kushner, who attend Levittown’s Gerald R. Claps Career and Technical Center Program, were recognized for their accomplishments in the SkillsUSA New York State competition held in Syracuse on April 25-27. Ashley was a first-place winner in the arrest tactics demonstration. She was also recently named GC Tech Student of the Month for her skills in police science. Also Student of the Month in police science, Ryan placed third in the Employment Application Process category on the state level, and placed first in this category during the regional competition held in March.
