Long Island Swim School

Long Island Swim School is the teaching arm of the nationally ranked Long Island Aquatic Club. Our Learn to Swim programs create strong, safe, and confident swimmers for life. With locations in Garden City and Syosset we train over 2,000 children each week at every swim level from Beginner to Olympian. Long Island Swim School offers swim lessons for children ages 2 - 14years old. The main emphasis of our programs is to teach children to swim correctly and develop essential water skills in a relaxed environment. Our goal driven and technique oriented approach is the key to your child's success. Through skill based quality teaching our students develop a joy for learning and a passion for swimming. At Long Island Swim School, we teach children to swim the same way the best in the world do. By using age-appropriate, proven techniques children build real skills in kick, pull, body position, and breath control. Our logical, consistent progression turns every fundamental—whether blowing bubbles or learning butterfly timing—into a building block for efficient, confident swimming. WANTAGH, NY — A freak accident at the Jeep dealership in Wantagh Thursday morning has led to one person's death. A 32-year-old male employee at the Merrick Jeep Chrysler Dodge service center was struck by a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 20-year-old male employee, as he was backing up the vehicle, detectives said. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver remained at the location on Sunrise Highway. Police are investigating.

Museum of American Armor

This Labor Day Weekend, Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 6th between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., the Museum of American Armor, 1303 Round Swamp Road, Old Bethpage, will present “Tanker Friend &amp; Foes,” operating its collection of Allied armor alongside replica enemy vehicles they would have confronted during World War II.
From the Hellcat tank destroyer that could reach speeds of 50 miles per hour, to the replica Tiger tank whose lethal cannon created deadly havoc for the Allies, the Armor Museum’s collection will be presented for the purpose of paying tribute to those who have defended our freedoms and the sacrifice required to do so.

Donations are requested at the door with suggested amounts: $15 adults; $12 children 5 - 12 (under 5 are free); and $12 seniors (60+), volunteer firefighters, and veterans.

The Jay Heritage Center in Rye, New York will celebrate America at 250 with a toast to Jay Medal honorees Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annette Gordon-Reed, the Carl M. Loeb University Professor at Harvard University and award-winning Lincoln historian Harold Holzer.
The Jay Medal for Service was created in 2012 to recognize individuals who demonstrate a selfless spirit of commitment to and engagement with their community mirroring the multifaceted contributions of John Jay and his descendants. These honorees have demonstrated through their life's work that our shared narratives as a country, complicated as they are, can be better illuminated through the highest caliber of ongoing scholarship and advocacy. Honorees are selected for their excellence in the fields of American history, environmental stewardship, social justice or civic engagement.
Joining the celebration will be Chief Judge of the State of New York and the New York Court of Appeals, Honorable Rowan D. Wilson and historian and philanthropist Elihu Rose who will present the awards at JHC's annual Soirée. Special guests will include David Blight, Frank Cogliano, Joanne Freeman, and Beverly Gage.

The Jay Medal Soirée will be held Saturday, September 19, 2026 at the Jay Estate from 5:30-9:30pm. Cocktails, dinner, award ceremony and dancing. Cocktail Attire.
