Wantagh Public Library Kicking off 50th Anniversary Celebration this Week

Special events will run from May 7-12 long in honor of milestone.

In honor of its 50 anniversay, the will host a series of celebratory events from May 7-12 starting Monday night. 

First opened in December 1962, the community-oriented facility has strived to meet the informational, educational and recreational needs of area residents through reading, learning and hands on events.

Library Director Maggie Marino said she is proud to be a part of the celebration and feels honored to be in her position.

"The anniversary is important to me," Marino said. "The library plays a very important part in Wantagh. Everyone here is trying to make the library answer the needs of the community."

Anniversary events kick off Monday night with Pajama Story Time at 7 p.m., a visit by author David Adler Tuesday at 7 p.m. and another author visit by Saralee Rosenberg Tuesday at 2 p.m.

"I'm very excited about the author appearances we have scheduled," Marino explained. "David Adler's Cam Jansen series appeals to children of very different age groups. I have heard Saralee Rosenberg speak before and she's just terrific. These visits are not something that's happened often in the past but we hope to provide them more in the future."

The final anniversary celebration will take place this Saturday with the unveiling of the newly designed Wantagh Public Library sign at 11 a.m. From 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., guests can enjoy complimentary pretzels and Italian ices and a visit from Mismatch the clown.
