Wantagh Men Who Popped Manhole Cover And Entered Sewers Under Investigation: PD
Nassau County police say they're still investigating the group of men who were seen entering sewers in Wantagh Thursday.
WANTAGH, NY — A group of men who were seen pulling a manhole cover out of place and entering the sewer system Thursday are still under investigation Friday morning, police said.
Nassau County police said they received calls from multiple witnesses at 1:14 a.m. Thursday with reports that a group of men had unscrewed the manhole cover at the intersection of Wantagh Avenue and Jerusalem Avenue, dropped down into the sewer system and pulled the cover back into place behind them.
According to police, police and fire personnel responded to the intersection, searched through the surrounding sewer tunnels but did not find anyone. The incident is still under investigation and there have been no reports of similar incidents, police said.

Police have not yet identified any of the men.
On Thursday, Eyewitness News obtained surveillance footage capturing the incident, showing five individuals at the intersection.
