Wantagh Schools Homecoming Parade, Game: PHOTOS

WANTAGH, NY — The Wantagh School District's yearly homecoming parade and game was a hit over the weekend, as community pride was on full display for the picturesque fall afternoon. The fun-filled weekend of activities kicked off Friday afternoon with a pep rally, during which the district's sport teams and homecoming court were introduced.

Before the big game Saturday against the Bethpage Eagles, worldwide city-themed floats were led down Wantagh Avenue to the football field, included the marching band, cheerleaders, homecoming court, members of the Wantagh board of education and central administration, and, of course, the grand marshal — the girls volleyball team.

At halftime, cheerleaders pumped up a raucous crowd of cheering fans as the marching band performed a flawless rendition of Earth, Wind and Fire hits. Seniors Michael Rodin and Olivia Tomeo were crowned king and queen, to the delight of the crowd, with Matthew Drago and Kate Padgett named first runners-up, and Jack Padula and Nicole Hooker the second runners-up.

The juniors won the float competition in stunning fashion with a Las Vegas-themed float, while the seniors came in second with a New York City-themed float. The sophomore class came in third with a Paris float while the freshmen class came in fourth with an Athens float.

The Warriors lived up to their reputation and name, notching a close 21-20 victory over the Eagles.
