Wantagh-Seaford School Budget Vote, Trustee Election Tuesday

Here's what you need to know before heading to the polls.

Wantagh-Seaford residents will head to the polls on Tuesday to cast their ballots for a proposed school budget and to elect school board trustees.

For Wantagh residents, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Mandalay Elementary School, Forest Lake Elementary School and Wantagh Elementary School.

The Wantagh Board of Education is proposing a budget of $76,204,655 for 2016-17. That represents a 0.65 percent spending increase over the current year with a 0.18 percent decrease in the school tax levy.

For Seaford residents, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Seaford Manor Elementary School and Seaford Harbor Elementary School.

The Seaford Board of Education is proposing a budget of $65,310,448 for 2016-17, representing a 2.63 percent spending increase with a 1.23 percent increase in the school tax levy.

Voters will also elect school board trustees on Tuesday.

In Wantagh, incumbents Kera McLoughlin and Peter Mountanos will be running against challenger Jean Quinn for the two open seats on the school board. The terms are for three years.

In Seaford, incumbent Bruce Kahn and Janice Baldwin will both be running unopposed for the two open seats. Jeanmarie Wink is not seeking re-election. The terms are both for three years.
