Wantagh Senior Named LIAA Scholar Artist

Wantagh High School senior Erin Bortell received recognition by the Long Island Arts Alliance for having demonstrated excellence in art during her high school career.

Bortell received an Award of Merit in media arts for photography and was recognized at the annual 2014-2015 Scholar-Artist gala held at Half Hollow Hills High School on Sept. 9.

The LIAA Scholar Artists Program is presented by the New York Community Bank Foundation and is produced in cooperation with Newsday. Awards are presented to students in the areas of visual arts, media, dance, photography, music and theatre.

To receive this designation, the student, as a senior, must be nominated by his or her high school and represent the highest level of artistic excellence. Applicants must also have maintained an unweighted grade point average of 90 percent or above.
