Wantagh Starbucks Workers Latest To Form Union On LI

WANTAGH, NY — More Starbucks workers have voted to unionize. The coffee shop in Wantagh is the latest to create a union by an overwhelming 20-7 on Wednesday, the group Starbucks Workers United said.

That brings the number to 4, where unions have been formed at Starbucks on Long Island.

"It’s a message that we don’t have to accept that this is the way things are. That we have the ability to collectively decide that we deserve better from these companies that we make so much money for," Sam Tamborello, a one-year partner at the Wantagh location, said.

The Wantagh Starbucks is located at the Willow Woods Shoppes on Wantagh Avenue.

Starbucks is also on the hot seat for claims of firing union leaders in Queens and Great Neck.

"Workers have the right to organize and collectively bargain if they so choose, and I’m proud to join my colleagues standing in solidarity with Austin [Locke] and Joselyn [Chuquillanqui]," Senator Kirsten Gillibrand said in a statement.
