Wantagh Students Honored For Artistic Excellence

Their pieces were chosen out of thousands to be awarded.

The Wantagh High School art department has announced that 12 students in Patricia Beary’s and Amy McPartlan’s Advanced Placement Photography and Studio classes received regional awards in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards contest, presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers.

The works of these talented students were judged among more than 255,000 submissions to the annual competition that recognizes excellence in writing and art.

Students Alexa Dowling, Victoria Fruci and Grace Sullivan were selected as Gold Key winners in the area of photography, and their works will be further considered for national recognition.

The Alliance for Young Artists and Writers is a nonprofit organization that identifies exceptional artistic and literary talent of students. The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition, which dates back to 1923, allows students in grades 7-12 to submit works in 27 categories for judging by luminaries in the visual and literary arts. The roster of past winners includes Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote and Joyce Carol Oates.

Caitlin Jaeggli, Iva Kalinkova, Sydney Mendolia, Caitlin Quelle and Breanna Quod all received Silver Key Awards, while Erin Hogarty, Jennifer Iadevaio, Breanna Quod and Dylan Wozniak were given Honorable Mention.
