Wantagh Student Is The Map King
Cavit Ireland now has a chance to go on to the state finals for the National Geography Bee.

Cavit Ireland, an eighth-grader at Wantagh Middle School, was the winner in the school-level competition for the National Geography Bee. He will now take a test for a chance to participate in the state finals.
The National Geography Bee not only reviews and tests students’ knowledge of world geography, but is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their classrooms, spark student interest in the subject and increase public awareness about geography.
Prior to the holiday break, preliminary rounds were conducted in all classes, and 29 students qualified to compete in the school-wide finals on Jan. 10. Under the direction of social studies teacher David Cippoletti and District Supervisor of Social Studies Christopher Widmann, competitors were tested in a challenging contest on their knowledge of U. S. cities, historic places, continents and U.S. and world geography — and Ireland came out on top.
