Wantagh Students Raise Thousands for Police Charities

The class of 2017 raised the money for the Nassau, Suffolk and NYC Widows and Orphans funds.

During the Wantagh School District Board of Education’s Jan. 19 meeting, members of the class of 2017 presented three separate checks to representatives of Police Benevolent Associations in Suffolk and Nassau counties and New York City.

Under the direction of class adviser Steve Benner, the students held a car wash in July and sold T-shirts to raise money for the PBAs’ Widow and Orphan Funds. The fundraiser continued through the fall with the sale of more than 700 T-shirts, raising a total of $10,000.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the students,” Benner said. “They all demonstrated commitment and teamwork, raising money for an excellent cause.”
