Wantagh Warrior Newspaper is Solid Gold

The student paper took home 13 awards from the Empire State School Press Association contest, the most ever for the school.

Under the direction of Peter Kravitz, the Wantagh Warrior newspaper received 13 journalism awards during the annual Empire State School Press Association contest, held at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Communications.

It is only the second time in 24 years that the newspaper has won three individual gold awards. These awards were acquired by Class of 2016 graduate Sarah Sneddon in the category of news story, senior Karen Kawacki for a portfolio in review writing and junior Jacqueline Schroder in sports news.

“Last year’s staff was one of the best I’d had in 24 years of advising the school newspaper,” Peter Kravitz said. “This year’s group might even be better!”
