Wantagh Youth Football Team Captures Super Bowl

Wantagh Warriors wins Nassau Suffolk Football League (NSFL) Tier 1 title for second straight year.

The Wantagh Football Club Senior Team has captured a Super Bowl title for the second straight year.

The Wantagh Warriors, a team comprised of 12 and 13-year olds, won the Nassau Suffolk Football League (NSFL) Tier 1 Super Bowl title on Nov. 27 with a 27-14 win against the Bethpage Eagles at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park in Oyster Bay Harbor.

Following an 8-1 regular season, the Warriors defeated Malverne in the first round of the NSFL tier 1 playoffs, 16-14. In the second round, the Warriors atoned for their only regular season defeat with a 12-6 double overtime win at Brentwood to earn a spot in the Super Bowl against Bethpage.

After a back and forth battle, the score at halftime of the Super Bowl was tied 14-14. The Warriors then made the necessary halftime adjustments and outscored Bethpage 13-0 in the second half to become 2011 champions.
