Tourist in Washington Heights Airbnb Horrified by Street Dancing, 'Spanish Hip-Hop'

"It's almost surreal that I came to the USA for this."

| Updated

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Get ready for your daily dose of ignorance. A tourist staying in an Airbnb room in Washington Heights has taken to Reddit to unleash an obscene, stream-of-consciousness rant about the "EXTREMELY LOUD" street scene below.

"Decided to come NYC on vacation and didnt know much about the neighborhoods," Reddit user askinguy wrote on the Ask NYC vertical. "Ended up coming to washington heights, and boy do I regret!!!"

The angry tourist is having issues, he says, with a group of residents who congregate outside his building and listen to "spanish hiphop" late into the night. Unable to sleep, he says he "peeked thru the window" to survey the scene — only to find four people dancing and drinking in the street. "AND SINGING TOO!!!!!"

Here's the full post, which went up Friday, Aug. 5, 2016:

Decided to come NYC on vacation and didnt know much about the neighborhoods. Ended up coming to washington heights, and boy do I regret!!!
Whats wrong with these people? Dont they work? How can the other people in the building stand this? EVERY NIGHT, Im not talking about weekends, EVERY NIGHT, there are people with stereos extremely loud at 2 , 3 and 4 in the morning. Do these people have shit for brains?
Tonight the neighbor had friends ON THE SIDEWALK, they were all sitted on chairs and talking EXTREMELY LOUD (it was more screaming than talking) up until 2 in the morning. When finally they stopped and I managed to sleep, a guy came in a car (about 3 am) with the stereo EXTREMELY LOUD, parked the car near my window and stood there up until now. As I am writing (4h45am) they are still there, I peeked thru the window he is dancing in the sidewalk and drinking with 2 girls and another man. AND SINGING TOO!!!!! Some spanish hiphop...
Its almost surreal that I came to the USA for this.
Ive been in washington heights now for 4 nights and could not sleep on any of them.
What to do?? Noboby calls the police??

Pro tip for askinguy: Don't spy on locals through your window. It's creepy.

And second, if you're going to stay in someone else's neighborhood, do your research. Washington Heights gets very loud, very late — that's one of the reasons to love it. Want peace and quiet? Try the Upper East Side. Or the majority of gentrified Brooklyn.

In an update to his post later Friday, Askinguy unleashed even more wrath on the neighborhood after Googling some police crime stats. (FACTS!)

I looked at NYPD reports and this is suposed to be a safe neighborhood, I really dont know how!! Up to now I am hating this place, I would NEVER, NEVER live here. People have no education, everybody here talks loud, loud music day and night ANYWHERE, even in the more secluded areas. people sit around in chairs in the streets smoking and drinking and screaming , I also understand a little bit of spanish and since they talk so loud, its impossible not to hear what they are saying - And let me tell you they talk about drugs and jail all the time.

Sigh.

Luckily, not everyone on the Ask NYC subreddit is as ignorant as Askinguy. In only a few hours, the post generated a ton of backlash.

Of dozens of commenters who cut Askinguy down to size, one wrote: "You decided to stay in a Dominican neighborhood with the character you’re describing but you’re complaining about the community’s way of life. You’re not some white saviour who needs to help people escape the noise but you seem to think that the community is too incompetent to do anything themselves. Lucky for them you’re only there for ten days."
