Inwood Fire Injures 5 On Vermilyea Avenue, FDNY Says

The two-alarm fire started shortly before 11:30 a.m. in a six-story apartment building.

INWOOD, NY — Five people were hurt when a fire broke out Monday morning in an Inwood apartment building, an FDNY spokesman said.

The fire broke out shortly before 11:30 on the fifth floor of 71 Vermilyea Ave., a six-story building between Academy and West 204th streets, an FDNY spokesman said. The FDNY response was upgraded to a second alarm within about 20-minutes, drawing an emergency response of more than 100 fire and EMS personnel.

Of the five people who were hurt, three were firefighters and two were civilians, an FDNY spokesman said. None of the injuries were life threatening, the spokesman said.

The fire was placed under control at 12:25 p.m., fire officials said.
