Death Toll Climbs In 3-Alarm Fire In Upper Manhattan: Report

INWOOD, NY — The three-alarm fire in Inwood, which killed three people and injured 11 more on May 4, has claimed a fourth life over the weekend, according to a report from the New York Daily News.

Annie De La Cruz succumbed to her injuries on Sunday, her daughter Karla Garcia told the New York Daily News.

The fire started around 12:35 a.m. on May 4 on the second floor of a six-story building at 207 Dyckman St., between Vermilyea Avenue and Broadway, Patch previously reported.

Nearly 200 firefighters and medics responded to the blaze, which was brought under control nearly three hours later, the FDNY told Patch.

According to the FDNY, medics treated 14 patients in total, including three residents who died at the scene.

Five more residents were taken to local hospitals in severe condition, and the rest of the patients, one of whom was a firefighter, had minor injuries, fire department officials said.

De La Cruz was the mother of a man who died while rescuing members of his family, according to the New York Daily News.

The FDNY's fire marshals said the fire was the result of a flicked cigarette.
