NEW YORK CITY — Tokyo Record Bar in Greenwich Village will host a series of events in October celebrating jazz legends Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis, combining vinyl listening experiences, special menus and appearances by members of the musicians' families.
From October 8–10, the bar will celebrate the 109th anniversary of Monk's birth with a special Sonic Journey curated by his grandchildren, Sierre Monk and Thelonious IV Monk.
Guests can choose a seven-course vinyl jukebox omakase menu by Executive Chef Ignacia Valdés, with dishes inspired by Monk's music and favorite foods, or order cocktails and small plates à la carte at the upstairs bar.
Omakase seatings are at 6 and 9 p.m., while the cocktail bar accepts reservations at 6, 8 and 10 p.m., along with walk-ins. Monk's birthday, October 10, will feature his niece, Angélika Beener.
On October 20, Tokyo Record Bar will host a one-night celebration marking the centennial of Miles Davis' birth. His son, Erin Davis, and nephew, Vincent Wilburn Jr., will attend the event as part of an ongoing series of tributes organized by the Miles Davis Estate to recognize the musician's influence on music, art and fashion.
Guests at the Davis celebration can select music from an exclusive playlist curated by Erin Davis and Wilburn. Dining options will include a seven-course vinyl jukebox omakase menu downstairs or cocktails and Chef Valdés' à la carte bites upstairs.
Reservations for the Monk events are available through Tokyo Record Bar's booking page.
