A Dozen NYC Trader Joe's Will Close For Coronavirus Cleaning Days

NEW YORK, NY — Trader Joe's shoppers might find their local store closed when they stop by for groceries the next few weeks.

The grocery store chain has announced a cleaning schedule that will close a dozen of its New York City locations for a day each over the next two weeks. The closures are part of "additional precautionary cleaning and sanitization" to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Among the locations are four Trader Joe's that closed for longer periods of time last month after a crew member tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Trader Joe's that will close over the next two weeks include locations in the East Village, the Upper West Side, Murray Hill, Rego Park, Essex Crossing, Union Square, Chelsea, SoHo and two Brooklyn locations at City Point and on Court Street, according to a schedule on their website.

The Upper West Side location, the Union Square location on East 14th Street, the SoHo outpost and the Chelsea location all had one or more crew members that tested positive for the virus, the store said. They were each closed for several days so the store could clean and have since reopened.

A spokesperson for Trader Joe's did not immediately respond to questions about whether the additional cleaning over the next two weeks is related to coronavirus cases among staff.

Here's when locations will be closed, they will each reopen the next day:

• April 20: East Village Trader Joe's on 436 East 14th St.
• April 21: Brooklyn City Point Trader Joe's at 445 Gold St.
• April 21: Upper West Side Trader Joe's at 2073 Broadway
• April 22: Murray Hill Trader Joe's at 200 East 32nd St.
• April 23: Rego Park Trader Joe's at 90-30 Metropolitan Ave.
• April 24: Essex Crossing Trader Joe's at 400 Grand St.
• April 24: Union Square Trader Joe's grocery at 142 East 14th St.
• April 27: Union Square Trader Joe's wine shop at 138 East 14th St.
• April 27: Chelsea Trader Joe's on 675 Sixth Ave.
• April 28: Brooklyn Trader Joe's at 130 Court St.
• April 28: SoHo Trader Joe's at 233 Spring St.
• April 28: Upper West Side Trader Joe's at 670 Columbus Ave.
