Greenwich Village Eatery Is Hidden Behind A Painting: Report

Frevo isn't your typical upscale Lower Manhattan restaurant. You have to take a trip through a painting to find it.

GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — When a customer with a reservation first arrives at Frevo, they might think they've walked into the wrong building. Upon entering the Greenwich Village address, it appears only as an art gallery.

But, they're not in the wrong place at all.

Frevo, located at 48 West 8th Street, is hidden behind a piece of art created by French artist Toma-L that doubles as a secret door, according to a recent article by Food & Wine.

Once you step through the canvas, a 14-seat counter appears that serves up a tasting menu with an accomodating wine pairing selection.

"Frevo is an elegant take on contemporary cuisine curated by Brazilian chef Franco Sampogna and Portuguese restaurateur Bernardo Silva," reads a description of the restaurant on its website. "The exclusive 14-seat counter, concealed by an art gallery, offers an intimate dining experience with an open kitchen overlooking the chef’s work."

The menu price is $158 per person, the wine pairing is $105 a person, and the premium wine pairing is $240 a person.
