Greenwich Village Takes 4 Spots In James Beard Semifinals
Four Greenwich Village eateries or chefs, and two more in nearby SoHo and NoHo, are in the running for the prestigious culinary award.
GREENWICH VILLAGE, MANHATTAN — Greenwich Village and nearby SoHo and NoHo took half a dozen of the limited semifinalist spots for this year's prestigious James Beard Awards.
Four Greenwich Village, a SoHo and a NoHo spot were among the slew of New York City chefs, bakers, bartenders and restaurateurs to get a nod in the list of 2020 James Beard Awards semifinalists, which were announced Wednesday.
Among the neighborhood's top spots was West Eight Street watering hole Existing Conditions, which was one of two NYC spots nominated for Outstanding Bar Program, and Locanda Verde, whose chef was named a semifinalist in the Outstanding Chef category.

Chefs from Mediterranean eatery Balaboosta and American spot Don Angie also were semifinalists, taking a spot in the Best Chef for New York State category. Daniela Soto-Innes, chef at NoHo's ATLA, also took a spot on the state's best list.
Finally, Dominique Ansel Bakery was the only New York City spot to make it as a semifinalist in the Outstanding Hospitality category.

The Village nominees and the rest of New York City's semifinalists will face off against foodie professionals from across the nation for a chance to win the final Restaurant and Chef award nominees, to be announced on March 25.
