For example, three of the main voter precincts in the West Village, from West Street to Charles Street between 10th Street and Bank Street, saw their number of Trump votes jump slightly in 2020 compared to 2016.
However, most of the neighborhood's southern part saw increases in the number of Democratic votes in 2020 compared to 2016.
The West Village voting precincts each had between 600 and 900 voters.
None of the West Village precincts saw a jump of more than 5 percent for either party in 2020 compared to 2016.
Here's how the New York Times explained how it created the voting precinct boundaries.
"Where possible, we used official precinct boundaries provided by the states or counties, but in most cases these were not available and we generated boundaries ourselves, using L2 voter-file points to guess the precinct for each census block group; this results in generally accurate precinct boundaries, but can be rough in no- or very-low-population places like business parks or uninhabited rural land," creators of the interactive map wrote.
While more people in some West Village areas voted for Trump in 2020 than they did in 2016, President Joe Biden still easily won every single precinct in the neighborhood.
