Man Dies After Jumping Into Hudson River At Pier 45, Cops Say
Police believe the 20-year-old jumped into the water to retrieve property.
WEST VILLAGE, MANHATTAN — A man died Thursday night after jumping into the Hudson River near West 10th Street, police said.
The 20-year-old jumped into the river near Pier 45 around 8:45 p.m., police said.
Cops believe that the man was jumping in to retrieve property, though they added that the reason hasn't been confirmed and there aren't details about what property he was going after, an NYPD spokesperson said.

Divers with NYPD's Harbor Unit searched for the man for nearly an hour before finding him unconscious and pulling him from the water, police said. He was pronounced dead at 10:05 p.m., the spokesperson said.
A witness told CBS that three others had gone in the river to try and save the man, though police said they could not confirm whether others had jumped in. All three were rescued and treated at the scene, according to CBS.
