DOWNTOWN, MANHATTAN — The latest innovation by New York City's food and drink industry to stay afloat during the coronavirus pandemic is a cocktail kit that asks New Yorkers to "Party In Place" instead of at their favorite bar.

East Village bar The Wayland, Manhattan catering company Cocktails in Motion and Brooklyn-based Tanteo Tequila have started creating "Party In Place" care packages that will let New Yorkers make fancy cocktails from the comfort of their homes.

The cocktail kits aim to not only help the three companies stay in business during the statewide stay-at-home order, but also keep restaurant workers and bartenders who are out-of-work stay afloat. Bartenders or bar-backs impacted by the pandemic will deliver the kits and 10 percent of the proceeds will go to an origination helping restaurant workers.

The "Party In Place" packages can be delivered to anywhere in Manhattan below 96th Street and to those in Brooklyn between Greenpoint and Park Slope.

They include a bottle of tequila, a specialty margarita mix, dehydrated fruit wheels for garnish and "Mexican Street Papas."

“Party in Place offers a way to elevate virtual happy hours and bring some cheer into their homes while allowing us to continue employment for our amazing staff and raise some money to support all hospitality workers impacted by this crisis,” said Brian Hawthorne, a partner in Cocktails in Motion and the hospitality group behind Wayward.

The cocktail kits are the latest way New York City restaurants and food companies are adapting to the coronavirus pandemic, which closed the city's restaurants and bars to dining in customers last month.

Several other restaurants are creating at-home meal kits, including an extravagant $600 "Doomsday Dinner Party" option from a Greenwich Village eatery. Other restaurants have taken to adding markets to their outposts to boost business as they do takeout and delivery order.
